It is no accident that Chrisopigi is a favorite destination for both Greeks and foreigners. It may well be the most beautiful landscape of Sifnos. Chrisopigi is the place of the island’s patroness, Virgin Mary of Chrisopigi, whose church is built on a rocky islet totally cut off from the mainland.
It is a newly built settlement, by reference to the impressive chapel of Chrisopigi that was built around 1635. Quite stunning is the neck separating the holy rock from the rest of the island. Every year, during the festivities in Virgin Mary’s honor, crowds of people flock from all over Greece. To our left, after the bridge, we find the cavity where poet Aristomenis Proveleggios retreated and wrote. Quite impressive is the built altarpiece with the designs in relief inside the chapel.
